Haven’t heard back from McKinsey screening stage

Hi

I recently applied to McKinsey‘s Business analyst role through a refferal link to their London office. I know application processes take quite a while but I have seen a mixed of responses online on how long McK takes to get back after the intial screening.

should I worry that I haven’t heard back from them yet? I applied through the online portal with my CV through a refferal link, is the lack of response and indication that I will not be invited to take the PSG this not moving to the next round or shall I he prepared to wait for a longer repsonse time due to the current situation? Any insights particularly from the London office woukd be highly appreciated.

thanks in advance!

I wouldn't be too worried about it. Sometimes it takes a while.

I have a couple of candidates now interviewing for London who have applied this cycle and have already heard back with an invitation to the test.

Even so, it doesn't mean that if you haven't heard back, it's a no.

Follow up with a polite message to HR to ask for an update on your application.

Best,

Cristian

It can take up to a month, but feel free to reach out close to that mark (or even before if there are urgent matters)

Hi,

There should be some response from the firm eventually.
Try asking the person who referred you to nudge the HR about your application.

Good luck!

Hi there,

Q: Should I worry that I haven’t heard back from them yet?

Usually the screening takes a few weeks, although it depends on the recruiting period as well. If you have not heard back within a few weeks, it is fine to follow up with HR.

Good luck!

Hi there, you will hear back, there is no ghosting of candidates. Would be helpful to hear what recently means :-) 5 days or 2 weeks? Warm regards, Frederic

Hi Fredric, thank you for your response,
To answer your question, I applied a week ago usually I wouldn’t have asked if it was normal to not hear after a week but I kept seeing people get positive responses to screening after 1-3 days
Thanks in advance! :)

Give it another week before calling HR. Calling after 1 week isn't professional. I keep my fingers crossed for you. =)

Hi there,

You should never be worried. Why? Because you've applied to 40+ firms and networked a ton and therefore expect multiple interviews without relying and praying and hoping that maybe you'll get interviewed by the #1 consulting firm in the world that is super super selective!

See what I did there?

In terms of “what to expect”, you should ideally hear within a week or two. If it has been more than 2 weeks, you can check in with your referrer. The honest answer is that the longer time that passes the lower the odds (but never are they zero).

The other honest answer is: you have no control over the situation so stop focusing on things which you cannot control - focus on other networking/apps AND case prep!

Fingers crossed for you!

Hi there,

There is no fixed time for screening responses. They usually take around 1-2 weeks. You can kindly ask a recruiting contact if it takes longer.

In parallel, I suggest you develop a broader application strategy including more consulting firms to diversify risk.

Good luck!

Alberto
