Who selects which applications are invited to interviews at McKinsey?

Is it the HR team who make the selection?

Hi there. It’s the recruitment team who makes the final call on who to extend an interview invite to. (HR and recruitment are separate teams. HR handles more internal administrative issues)

Hope this helps!

Hi there,

Just to followup to Erica's point, there are normally 1 or 2 point people in recruiting to screen your resume (and you, via a call) in terms of being invited to interviews.

This is paired with a system that evaluates the strength of your candidacy (based on resume, your online assessment, et.c etc.).

Referrals as well as emails putting you in touch with the recruiting team greatly improve your chances of being invited!

Hi!

HR also contributes to choosing who to invite for an interview.

Do you have a more specific question so that we can provide you with additional information?

Best,

Anto

Hello,

It will be a few people from the recruiting team (as Erica pointed out, this is distinct from HR) that handles applications for your office/practice/job level.

No, it is the recruitment team. Depending on the office, the role and the school you go to etc. there is a recruiting team that is made up of consultants that will shortlist candidates for interview.

Hey there,

Yes, HR decides for most cases based on standard criteria that can differ a bit for each office (due to local preferences, etc.).

In general, try to aim at having excellent stats for

  • Education
  • Career
  • Experience abroad
  • Extracurricular engagements

Cheers,

Florian
