BCG Consulting application

Recently I applied in BCG for consulting full time , I have got message as follows :

“Thank you for your interest in a career with Boston Consulting Group. We have carefully considered your application to the position: Consulting - Full-time, and while we are impressed by your achievements, your profile does not match our current needs.  We have therefore decided not to pursue your application at this time .”

This means that I got not been selected for interview. So I just was curious & wanted to know that what do they meant by “current needs “ what BCG looking for? Here I need to be clear that I’m currently pursuing MBA from a  good business school in UK, have some good experience in some top banking firms & internship in consulting. Still I couldn’t make through screening stage .
Is the reason my CV or the prymatrics  test

Any advice or suggestions on this ?

Hi there,

Current needs = all needs. This is just a polite way of saying your profile wasn't up to scratch (sorry).

Without knowing you, we don't know what's “wrong”, but here are a few tips:

  1. Remember that you're always playing the odds here. If you applied again, all things equal, you might get an invite - it's just how the world works!
  2. Get your resume reviewed professionally
  3. Make sure to networking extensively (ideally getting and interview)
  4. Build up your consulting-related experiences

That is a standard message, so don't overthink it.

Regarding your question on your CV vs. your pymetrics… while they take both in consideration when making a decision, I would say that since your CV seems* to meet the basic criteria to get an invitation, the problem is likely to be on your pymetric test result.

*of course, without looking at it, I can't really tell.

This is just a standard answer - don't try to interpret too much into the wording / language.

What you can always try is reach out to the HR and seek feedback on where you did not meet the bar. Especially in smaller offices, recruiters are typically ok to explain.

That said, if you try to apply to BCG again, make sure you strongly leverage the referral channel to maximize the odds (helps to over-come system-generated auto-rejections as well).

Hello,

Unfortunately, I believe that's just a way of saying that you didn't make the cut.  That's just how they it.  They are not referring to specific needs rather their high standards.
