Hi, I have gotten an offer from BCG and I would like to ask about the BCG background checks in Germany. Culturally, background checks are not taken positively here. I have heard MBB do it in other countries and would like to inquire about this practice in Germany and its extent?

MBB generally conducts background checks before hiring. As long as you did not lie/mislead on your resume you should be perfectly fine!

In Germany such background checks are usually not conducted. It is a tricky thing and a company could easily get sued for, e.g., contacting former employers (and these employers would nt be allowed to give out any information anyway!). So the typical “background check" you might see in the US or other European countries is typically not done in Germany.

Very standard, and actually made by other companies that get paid to do so.
Absolutely nothing to worry as long as you didn´t lie. They just check the big things in your CV (e.g., that you indeed graduated from University X in year Y, that you indeed worked for company Z in the cited role, etc)

I don't want my future employer to go back to my previous employer to ask about my previous salary and yearly reviews, this is a complete no-go for me. This is why I am a bit concerned about the extent of background check. Do they only check what's written on your CV?
