What makes a great interview? After more than 150 McKinsey interviews, I can assure you: there is no single answer.

Having spent five years at McKinsey, most recently as an Engagement Manager and interviewer, I have a very clear sense of what interviewers are looking for – and of what ultimately makes the difference. I can tell you what catches my attention, where I want to hear more, what leaves me unconvinced and where there is potential that has not quite come through yet.
