Will I get an offer?

Hello team, am in recruitment discussion with one of Big4 and here is what I heard last from HR:

“Hi xxx
Just concluded my discussion with abc.
We’ll come back to you with the final decision by next week.
I understand the urgency at your end however there are certain roles and responsibilities that needs to be assigned and approved .
Hope you understand.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. “

Hi there!

It means that they either

1. didn't get the chance to put everybody on one call to decide whether to give you an offer

OR

2. they don't have visibility on their hiring pipeline / they don't know how many more people they can hire this year

Regardless, there's no much that you can do at this point beyond wait on this application. If you push more, you're making your case look weaker.

Instead, I'd recommend you focus on other applications you might have ongoing.

Best,
Cristian

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the progress in the application process with the consulting firm thus far!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, the message from the recruiter indicates that your application is still under consideration and that they are in the final stages of the decision-making process. It seems to be a good sign as it implies you are being seriously considered for a position.
  • Moreover, I would advise you to remain patient and use this waiting period to continue preparing and applying to other consulting firms. This way, you will be prepared no matter the outcome.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi,

it means that they have not aligned internally yet to be able to communicate a final decision. All interviewers involved in the recruiting process need to be on board with the decision. They also still might have additional candidates in the pipeline so that they want to see the full picture before choosing the select few for the available roles. Or they are still waiting for final headcount budget approval.

As you see, there could be several underlying factors but it is all speculation. Unfortunately you will have to be patient until you receive official word. Don't just rely on one company and one recruiting process if you are pressed for a job though. Keep applying broadly to increase your chances.

Fingers crossed that you will get positive news.

Hi there,

Q: There are certain roles and responsibilities that needs to be assigned and approved. What does this mean?

This means they have delays in making a final decision. Possible reasons are:

  1. Need of the interviewers to align
  2. Need for more visibility on the upcoming project pipeline
  3. Need to complete the recruiting process with other candidates

Good luck!

Francesco

We don't know.

We'll know when/if they send the offer - not before.

As always, never stop networking/applying/interviewing with TONS of firms UNTIL you have the offer letter in hand

Fingers crossed for you!

Hi there,

We don't know. Only thing you can do for the moment is to wait and apply to other firms to diversify your risk in case you don't get the offer.

Best,

Alberto

My reading (and I am being speculative here) is that they need to figure out which role they want you in, and they need to approve that role.
