Forget about it. Those pieces of paper are utterly useless to pass interviews.

How come? Found them to have good cases as prep material.

Hi,

I think a case book is good to have for initial guidance to get into the topic of case interviews. They are not the end-all-be-all so you won't gain much by trying to substitute one for another in my opinion.

The cases for the interviews are developed by consultants and are often based on their real life experiences within consulting. All of them also went through the process of preparing for the recruiting process just like you are doing now. You can assume that all of the case books are well known collectively in each consulting firm. So naturally they are trying to find ways of testing candidates beyond what could be “memorized” from a case book.

Use them as part of your preparation but don't solely rely on them

Hi Marvin,

Just remember that the caser is much much more important than the case itself!

Reading cases has quickly diminishing returns. Make sure you're casing with other people and doing all of the other exercises/practice to get ready (math, charts/exhibits, daily reading, industry deep-dives, etc.)
