Scheduling BCG First Round Interview

I've received an invite for first round BCG interview and have been asked to propose a date for it. How soon should I schedule the interview for? Is 4 weeks from now too long?

Hi there,

There's literally no way we could know what's best for you - we don't know your readiness!

You should schedule it for when you think you're ready…

If you have done no prep to-date, you should give yourself about 2 months to prepare. If you're 50% of the way there, 4 weeks could be fine, but we don't know how quick of a learner you are and what weaknesses are remaining (structuring/frameworking or clear communication is a lot harder to fix than fast math, for example)

My advice? Get a coach to do a deep-dive assessment! They'll tell you how ready you are and how much time you need to fix your remaining weaknesses.

Hello,

If you're coming at this from BCG's standpoint, don't overthink it. If you give them a date that doesn't work for them or is too late for them, they will tell you that directly. Instead, really think about what is going to work for you.

Thinking about this in terms of your preparedness, it is difficult to tell how long you'll need to prep without knowing how much prep you've done so far, as fellow experts have pointed out. If you're relatively comfortable with casing at this point, 4 weeks is a fine time. If you've done no prep at all, I would recommend 1.5-2 months. If you have other first round interviews coming up, it could make sense to schedule this one around the same time, so that you can be at your peak prep form. If you're not super sure, I think Ian's suggestion of doing a quick assessment with a coach to determine how much more prep you would need is a great idea.

Schedule the interview for when you feel you will be ready. If that's 4 weeks, it's fine. If that timeline doesn't work for the office you're interviewing with, they will let you know. Good luck!

Hi!

It's hard to tell as there are many variables that come into play.

Working with a coach can surely help you achieve your desired level of preparation in a given timeframe.

Hope this helps.

Best,
