PhD in Physics struggling to break into consulting

Hi everyone,

I really want to break into consulting but somehow can't seem to make it happen. A quick summary of my profile:

  • PhD in Physics (took only 3 years, whereas the norm here is 5-7 years)
  • MSc in Electrical Engineering (3 semesters) – 1.3 overall grade
  • BEng in Electrical Engineering (dual study programme, 6 semesters) – 1.3 overall grade (with distinction)
  • Additional apprenticeship as an Electronics Technician (best in my German state)

I've shown consistent top-level performance for 12 years now and I'm genuinely excited about consulting, but I still haven't managed to land an offer. I already went through McKinsey (eliminated in R1) and several other firms. I rarely get feedback, but when I do, it's usually that I was rejected due to lack of consulting experience. The problem is that no one is giving me the chance to gain any.

Does anyone have suggestions for firms in Germany where I might have better odds given my profile? I'd really appreciate any input!
