McK Solve Results Turn Around

You should generally wait around 1 to 2 weeks, after which point you can gently reach out to HR for an update.

You can get the results within days or it could take weeks. The fact that other R1 invitations went out the same day does not mean you were rejected. You had only just completed Solve, so your application still needs to be reviewed.

Please stop worrying and focus on things you can control. Network with other firms. Apply to other firms. Keep case prepping. You should apply to 30+ companies.

First of all, congratulations on the progress in the application process with McKinsey thus far!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

• First of all, there is no fixed rule here. Some candidates hear back within a few days, others wait several weeks, because invitations usually go out in waves. The fact that some first-round invitations went out on the same day does not say anything about your outcome, since your McKinsey Solve pre-interview assessment results had only just come in and still needed to be reviewed.
• Moreover, if you have not heard anything after about two weeks, I would advise you to send a short and polite note to the recruiting team. While, contrary to what other coaches have said, asking for an update does not help - you'll receive the update as soon as there is one - you may still ask when you will receive an update.
• Lastly, use the waiting time wisely. Start practicing cases and preparing your PEI situations now, so that an invitation on short notice does not catch you off guard, and keep networking and applying to other consulting firms in parallel to take the pressure off this one process.

Timeline normally is about 1-3 weeks before you hear back, normally faster if its part of official campus recruitment (as they have a fixed timeline).

Would suggest to wait a week or two before politely following up.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the timing. If you completed Solve after the R1 invitations were sent out, your application may simply be processed in the next batch. The turnaround can vary by office and recruiting cycle, so there isn’t a reliable “normal” number of days.

I’d give it a little time before following up with recruiting. The fact that R1 invitations went out the same day you completed Solve doesn’t mean you’ve been rejected.

The timeline differs a lot but typically you hear back in a couple of weeks. 

Try to see if you can use the time productively in the meantime, either preparing for the interviews or sending out more relevant applications.
