How to structure a restructuring case?

Hi

I have an interview with a consulting firm with a focus on restructuring.

What does a restructuring case involve and how do you structure it?

Are there any good videos/ resources to prepare?

Thanks

Hi there,

I recommend trying to find this in casing involving re-organisation, PE, M&A, and profitability. You might find something in this list: https://www.preplounge.com/en/management-consulting-cases?language=en&topic[]=16&topic[]=1&topic[]=17&topic[]=4&sort=real-case-desc&page=1&perPage=20

I thinking about a case like this, consider the following:

  1. Root cause of company issues (and if they can be addressed, how?)
  2. Related to #1, why restructuring, what's the goal/objective, what issues does it purport to fix and how would the restructuring fix these systemic issues?
  3. NPV of decisions (i.e. debt re-payments, upfront restructuring costs, etc. etc.)

Fundamentally, what's the medium to long-term impact of the restructuring/insolvency, and what actions taken today make the future more manageable.

Here's a list to start you with: https://www.preplounge.com/en/management-consulting-cases?language=en&topic[]=1&topic[]=17&topic[]=4&topic[]=19&sort=real-case-desc&page=1&perPage=20

You should search for cases that are along the below lines.

Case Type

  • Re-org
  • M&A
  • PE
  • Valuation
  • Risk
  • Process improvement

Hey,

Have a look at these threads:

  • https://www.preplounge.com/en/consulting-forum/organization-restructuring-type-case-interviews-3187
  • https://www.preplounge.com/en/consulting-forum/restructuringinsolvency-case-interview-question-6934

Given the nature of this, start with understanding whats triggering the restructuring- most often this will be high cost which needs to be reduced. Then you can settle into the right framework - P&L, M&A etc

Hello there,

it's a good idea to practice profitability and cost reduction cases, also these that include re-organisation, PE and M&A. There are some good of them among PrepLounge's resources, so have a look.

Do you need any further help with that?
