FAANG Interview

Hello All,

Going through FAANG interviews now and getting a bunch of "tell me about a time you influenced people, etc" type questions - is this common in FAANG interviews? Do interviewers expect an answer similar to that of the McKinsey PEIs?

I was expecting more consulting / tech case studies so just a little thrown off by the focus on behavioral questions.

Appreciate any feedback cheers.

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the invitations!

This is indeed an interesting question which is probably relevant for quite a lot of users, so I am happy to provide my perspective on it:

  • Generally speaking, you should always expect different types of interview formats regardless of your due diligence. Still, having both personal fit and technical questions as parts of an interview is very common.
  • Moreover, these questions are very common as well. As such, I would advise you to complement your “personal fit Q&A”. Please feel free to contact me directly in case you want a more detailed discussion on typical personal fit questions to be asked.

In case you want a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare your ongoing/ upcoming FAANG interviews, please feel free to contact me directly.

I hope this helps,

Hagen

Hi there,

Well, if you're getting them then they must be common :)

Jokes aside, of course they're common! Frankly these are classic behavioral questions that are asked across a lot of different companies/interviews.

Additionally, you should always be prepared for anything in interviews - That way you won't be thrown off.

In terms of their expectations please definitely do not do a McK style PEI - it would be very awkward :P. They expect you to answer like a normal person (i.e. conversationally).

Yes, such questions are common. Search the Q&A forum for plenty of threads on how to answer such questions.

Dont sound like you are answering a MBB PEI question, keep it a bit more natural and in story telling format.

All the best.
