Does McKinsey ghost candidates?

Hi, I recently finished my final round interview for McKinsey's BA position and was also invited back for an additional round. It's been over 2 weeks after that additional interview, and I still haven't gotten my results. I emailed HR and my recruiter as well at the 2 week mark, but neither have responded so far. My questions are:

Does McKinsey give out silent rejections?

Have you heard of any instances where hiring decisions were communicated late?

Hi there,

I received an offer from McKinsey and helped several others get offers too. I even know two partner recruitment leads. There is no way that McK would ghost you.

In fact what you are experiencing is quite common and it is not a sign of either a rejection or moving forward. After interviews, the consultants need to get together to discuss and assess all candidates and sometimes that happens late mainly due to priority project work and a lag of scheduling the interviews.

Hope it all works out. Feel free to chat me if you want some advice and make a McK offer a sure thing.

Hey,

McKinsey will absolutely never ghost you. Sometimes the process gets delayed by a few weeks but you will always hear back.

Best of luck.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the long waiting time. Regarding your questions:

1) Does McKinsey give out silent rejections?

Normally they always let you know, regardless of the outcome.

2) Have you heard of any instances where hiring decisions were communicated late?

Yes, as mentioned normally they always let you know, hence eventually they should inform you. Usually you hear back within a week, but occasionally it takes longer.

Given what you shared, I would recommend waiting one more week for the follow-up email, and if you have not heard back by then, call the office and ask for an update over the phone.

Good luck!

No.

I've only heard of very few examples of something like this happening, and even then, I'm sure there is some sort of explanation behind it - an admin mishap, somebody going on vacation and forgetting to reply, etc.

But, officially, no, there is no ghosting policy :)

It would be unprofessional if there was one.

The only thing you can do is follow-up politely, and then use your energy to focus on developing other applications.

Best of luck!

Hi there,

No it doesn’t, McKinsey will reach out regardless of the outcome. Expect 2-4 weeks for that. Feel feee to reach out again to them after the 4 weeks’ mark.

Hey :)

McKinsey is usually quite structured and professional in their communication, so silent rejections are rare, but delays do happen, especially after additional rounds. These often mean that feedback is being aligned or you're on the edge and being considered seriously. Two weeks without a response is longer than usual, but not unheard of, especially if there are holidays, interviewer schedules, or internal discussions at play.

It’s okay to follow up again politely—sometimes a nudge helps bring things back on track. Hang in there, it’s still open until you hear otherwise.

Best,
Alessa
