Confusing situation - What should I do?

Hello everyone,

I hope you all are doing well.

I had applied for the consulting position at one of the MBB firms. I passed the CV screening and invited to take the test which I completed. However, the test got stuck for 10-15 mins due to a technical glitch and informed about the same to the HR and he mentioned that they will take it into consideration during the evaluation process.

I did not get a reply from HR for 5 weeks regarding my outcome so I followed up with him by sending a total of 3 emails in the gap of 8 days.

On 12th July I got a reply from him. However, as HR was not replying earlier I asked my referral (Partner and head of a particular industry) to ping HR so that HR would reply to my email.

HR replied to me on 12th July and stated they will get back to me after two weeks. My referral told me that he will ping HR (13th July) and on the same day I got the rejection email from HR.

Now the thing is the deadline for this position is 1st August (I got to know this afterward) and that is why HR told me that they will get back to me after 2 weeks which means around 1st August which makes sense.

So 11th July HR replied and just after 3-4 hours partner also pinged HR but by this time HR had already replied to me and again after 3-4 hours I got the rejection email. This is super complicated and confusing I know.

In these 3 weeks, I was invited to 2 events that were CV-based which means on the basis of your CV, you get the invitation and have applied for the 3rd event.

I am assuming that the partner must have forwarded my CV in a hurry to his home office instead of the office in which I had applied and the HR must have rejected me and I got the automated rejection email or when partner forwarded my query to the office in which I had applied and HR got irritated and straight away rejected me (does this kind of thing happens).

This all thing happened in 20 hours and I was out of town so did not check my emails at this time.

I have copied HR reply for your reference:

Hi XXX,

I hope you are well and had a lovely weekend.

Apologies for the confusion here. I can confirm you do not need to reapply as your application is currently under review. We will provide an update for you in the next fortnight.

Please let me know if I can help with anything else in the meantime.

Best wishes,
XXX

What should I do now?

As stressful as your situation sounds, I think you just genuinely wait as your application is being considered. It's great that you have a partner supporting you iternally and so I would just stay calm and let fate take care of the rest. On a side note, the invitation to recruiting events are not necessarily screened in the same way as the selection process so I would not link the two things.

Fingers crossed!

Thank you very much Ken for reading the whole thing. However, in case of events, Recruiter, organizer and moderator were the same people.

Hey,

Sorry to hear this. Messy situation.

Best avoid sending anymore emails or comms to them. Its really not going to help your case. Just be patient and wait for the outcome. Make sure you have updated your referee on the latest.

Other than that, get cracking with other applications in parallel and cast your net wide.

All the best.

Hi there,

Confusing situation indeed! I agree with the other coaches - you need to sit on this! They've said they're processing the application so you need to let them do that. Fingers crossed for you!
