career pivot from military to consulting in ME possible?

Hi,

I'm a military officer in Asia with 4 years in combined operations with the US like engagement planning for senior commander, live interpretation and synthesizing meetings for the staff. Targeting insead 2027 Aug then consulting in the middle east. Three pivots at once: function, industry, and geography. Has anyone actually seen this work? And which of the three tends to break people?

hey Cosmos:)

Yes, it’s definitely possible. Military experience can translate well into consulting, particularly your experience with senior stakeholders, structured problem solving, operating under pressure and synthesizing complex information.

The biggest challenge is probably not the function or industry pivot, but geography and work authorization, depending on your nationality and target Middle East office. INSEAD can also be a very strong bridge into consulting and give you access to the regional recruiting network.

I’d focus on making the story coherent: why consulting, why the Middle East, and how your military experience gives you transferable skills rather than trying to justify three separate pivots.

Best, Alessa :)
