Bain Referral Timing

Hey,

Would love to hear some thoughts, especially from Bainies.

I applied for an ACI position at Bain, and received a referral from a Bainie (I know since I got an email from him asking me to give him some data).

What seemed weird, is that I was asked to apply first, and my contact only submitted the referral form, after I had already applied.

Since for other consultancies, the referral process in my experience was exactly the opposite - first referral, then application/invitation to apply - I was wondering if my contact did the process correctly.

If not, how would I best go about raising this with HR, so that the referral gets considered in the screening process?

Hi there,

That is the correct process for Bain. The referral system is not connected to an invite link and they work independently.

The candidate needs to apply on their own and the Bainie submits the referral internally on the system.

Feel free to write to me if you have any more questions regarding the process or want to practice anything specific.

Best,
Eishan

Hi there,

Normally you are referred before the formal application indeed, or otherwise you have to indicate the person referring you in the application itself. However, it may well be that for your particular office you can be referred after that.

If you want to double-check with HR, you could send an email to them asking for confirmation that they received everything, including the referral from your contact.

Good luck!

Hi there,

I would just send an email to HR mentioning that a referral has been submitted on your behalf and that you wanted to make sure they are aware of it. Don't overthink it beyond this point. It's better to just clarify directly with them.

Best,

Cristian

Hi there,

The process changes across companies. If you followed the instructions of your referrer then you are good to go! If you want to double check, double check with your contact first!

Yes, that is the process at Bain. Don't worry.
