Background check - BCG SEA

Hi all,

I just landed an offer with BCG and am now doing the background check with HireRight. I have a few questions regarding this process

1. Do they ever revoke the offer because of the background check? What are the major issues that can cause this?

2. If there is a minor discrepancy between the title on the CV and the title on the official contract, does that matter if i can explain why?

Thanks

Hello there,

1. If you didn’t lie about your achievements and haven’t done anything imoral, you should be fine. They won’t enter in the details of your CV.

2. I believe so, it is not uncommon to hold a role that has a different name from the one in the contract.

Best,

Mari

1. They might revoke an offer if the background check shows some significant crime or major discrepancy between CV and reality. In practice, it’s very rare for this to happen but certainly possible.

2. This shouldn’t be an issue, I think it’s pretty common

Best of luck, and let me know if you need help preparing for the interviews.

Hi there,

Congratulations on the offer! Regarding your questions:

1) Do they ever revoke the offer because of the background check? What are the major issues that can cause this?

Yes, they could, if you reported something which is clearly false (eg studied in a different school, worked for a different company).

2) If there is a minor discrepancy between the title on the CV and the title on the official contract, does that matter if i can explain why?

If there is a difference, they might ask about it. However, unless it is a clearly misleading title (eg you reported “Manager” and you were an “Analyst”), there should not be issues.

Best,

Francesco

hey!

Congrats on your offer! To your questions:

  1. Yes, offers can be revoked, but only in cases of serious issues—like falsifying degrees, employment, or legal problems. Minor issues usually won’t lead to revocation if you're transparent and cooperative.
  2. Minor discrepancies in job titles are generally fine, especially if you can explain them (e.g., internal vs. external title). Just be honest and consistent in your communication with HireRight.

As long as there’s no intent to mislead, it’s usually not a problem.

1. If you meaningfully misrepresented yourself, i.e. lied in your resume in a clear and objective way, they will revoke the offer.

2. The previous does not include minor discrepancies between titles. This is actually common. In any case, if they have any questions they will likely ask you to clarify. As long as you are not claiming a different function or suggesting much higher responsibility / rank, it is perfectly fine.

Congrats!

1. Almost never and only when you purposefully mislead them / lied about something

2. Not a problem, once again, unless you purposefully mislead them to gain an advantage.

Hope it all goes well and you enjoy the role!
Best,
Cristian
