Do they basically just check what is written on the resume or do they also cross it with interviewer notes?
Are MBB background checks based on resume or also on what you said during interviews?

In my experience, MBB background checks primarily focus on verifying the information provided on the resume, such as educational qualifications, work experience, and other relevant details. The purpose of these checks is to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the candidate's application.
While interviewer notes may not be directly cross-referenced during the background check process, it's important to note that the interviewers' feedback and assessments play a significant role in the overall evaluation of a candidate. The interviewers' observations and impressions of the candidate's performance during the interviews are taken into consideration when making a final decision.
However, it's worth mentioning that the background check process may vary slightly between different MBB firms and even across different offices. It's always a good practice to be truthful and consistent in your application materials and during the interview process to avoid any discrepancies that may arise during the background check.

Hi there,
I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:
- First of all, consulting firms generally focus their background checks on the information provided in your application files. This includes verifying your education, employment history, and any other claims you've made about your experience.
- Moreover, while the background check itself typically doesn't include what you said during the interviews, consistency between your interview responses and your application files is crucial. Discrepancies, if discovered later, could raise concerns about your candidature.
- Lastly, I would advise you to ensure that all the information in your application files is accurate and can be verified. Also, maintain consistency in what you communicate during the interviews and what is written in your application files to avoid any potential issues during the background check process.
If you would like a more detailed discussion on your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Hi there,
They are based on your resume and anything you submitted in the online application.
That said, please don't lie during your interview itself - the interviewer can tell! (Note: Embellishing or focusing on certain things is not the same as lying)

Hi there,
Q: Do they basically just check what is written on the resume or do they also cross it with interviewer notes?
Normally it’s just your CV/what you reported in the application (mainly work experience and education).
Still, I would highly recommend that you don't lie during interviews, as it could backfire if they realize it.
Good luck!
Francesco

Hi,
They usually check what s on your resume. Of course if you said something strange during the interview they might want to check it.
Cheers,
Alexandre

They are based on the written information provided - usually a combination of your resume and other questions the background check companies may have for you.

Hi!
Interesting question. I actually never heard of them doing background checks on what you said during the interview. Only the CV.
The idea would be that the experiences you speak about during the interview correspond with what you have in the CV. And then they just go out to do a background check on the source.
Good luck!
Cristian

Hi there,
Background checks are based on your application materials. However, be careful with details mentioned during interviews that cannot be verified in case this might be an issue at some point.
Best,
Alberto
