Application to the different offices of the same MBB company

Hello,

Could anyone explain how simultaneous application to the different offices of the same company works?

On the company's website candidates are asked to select offices and allocate % of preference to them. For example if I set preferences as 50% for Office A, 30% for office B, 20% for Office C, how my application will proceed further?

This is pretty straight forward. Your resume will be passed around to the different offices in order of preference. It will be handled by local HR, who know exactly what the candidate pipeline and desired profiles look like.

If any of the offices shows interest, that’s where you will be intervening. Just to be clear, you won’t be interviewing in all of them if them they’re all interested. In that case it would be at your 1st choice.

Hi there,

Quite frankly, this is more of an art than a science - how your exact percentages will work out are totally dependent on office/country, role, timing, etc.

Ultimately, it works like ranks, where the office with your highest allocation goes 1st, the one with 2nd highest goes 2nd, etc.

I would advise against doing something like 1% or 5% for and office, but the rest is ultimately up to you.

If you're trying to maximize your odds, pick the offices where you have background (education, work experience, etc.) and where you have contacts/touch points.

Good luck!

They will try to assign you to your preferred option, but if that doesn't work, try the next one and so on.

You can use this to flag a couple of things: i.e., if you have a clearly preferred office vs. two that work for you in a similar way.

Just beware that some offices don't really like to be the second option (as they feel that consultants are using them just for a short term stint), so in some cases you should have a reason that explains that preference / that you actually want that office.

Hi there,

Q: Could anyone explain how simultaneous application to the different offices of the same company works?

You can usually express 3 preferences during the application process. They will consider the options with an order based on the percentages you allocate. If you are rejected from one office, you will be automatically considered for the following preference until all the offices have evaluated you.

Hope this helps,

Francesco

Every country does it differently. In general, they always try to match you with your main preference, and if that does not work then they move on to the remaining preferences.
