Hi there,

Typically, you’ll hear back from McKinsey within a few days to about two weeks after completing the Solve game, depending on the office and hiring cycle. If you pass, the recruiting team usually proposes interview dates shortly after, and you’re often given 1–3 weeks to prepare before the first interview.

Sometimes timelines move faster or slower, so no news in the first week is very normal. In the meantime, it’s a good idea to start light interview prep so you’re not caught off guard once dates are confirmed.

Best,
Evelina

After the Solve, you'll typically hear back within 1-3 weeks. Some offices are faster, some slower. If you haven't heard anything after 3 weeks, it's okay to send a polite follow-up to the recruiter.

If you pass, the time between getting the invite and the actual interview is usually 1-3 weeks. Sometimes longer if you request more time or if there's a specific interview day scheduled.

My advice: don't wait to start preparing. Assume you'll pass and use the time now to get ready. Practice cases, sharpen your mental math, and prepare your fit stories. If the invite comes quickly, you'll be glad you started early.

Good luck.

That waiting period after Solve is arguably the most nerve-wracking part of the whole application cycle—totally understand why you’re anxious for a fixed timeline.

The unfortunate reality is that there is no standard answer across the firm. While recruiting materials often suggest a 2-3 week window, I’ve seen timelines range anywhere from 3 days (if the local office has an immediate, acute headcount need) to five weeks (if they are batching assessments). Your speed depends heavily on the volume of candidates the specific office is processing and the current hiring priority for your desired location and tenure level.

Here is the essential piece of advice: Do not wait for the email before starting your preparation. If you passed Solve, the time you have to get ready for the first interview is almost certainly not enough. Once they invite you, the lead time is usually quite tight—often just 7 to 10 days out. That is enough time for fine-tuning, but not nearly enough to build the case interview and personal experience interview (PEI) muscles required to succeed.

Assume you passed and begin rigorous, timed practice sessions immediately. You want to be ready to accept and ace that interview, whether the invitation arrives next Tuesday or three weeks from now.

All the best with the next stage!

Hi there,

Normally after passing Solve, it can take anywhere from 1-3 weeks. If you require more time to prepare, definitely suggest it to the HR.

hey there :)

After the McKinsey Solve game, you usually hear back within a week or two. Once invited, the first interview is often scheduled within a few weeks, so you generally have some time to prep, but it’s good to start reviewing cases and PEI examples right away to stay fresh.

best,
Alessa :)

Less than 1 week vs. 2 weeks and a few days.

Basically, start preparing now and don't wait until you get confirmation... if you do that you won't be ready on time.

It really depends.

On average, 1-3 weeks.

But some people hear the next day, others wait for over a month.

Fingers crossed!
