What to focus on for the assessment center prep for a Global Markets internship?

Hey everyone, I’m currently preparing for the UBS Global Markets assessment centre and, coming from a non-finance background, I’m trying to teach myself the technical basics.

Most of the resources I’ve found focus on Global Banking — things like financial statements and valuation methods (DCF, comparables, LBOs, etc.) — so I’m not sure how relevant that is for Global Markets.

Should I still spend time on those, or are there specific technical areas that are more important for Global Markets? Any insights or advice on what to expect would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Congrats on reaching the assessment center stage, that’s a great step.

For a Global Markets internship, focus on understanding how markets move and what drives different asset classes rather than deep valuation work. Be ready to discuss a recent market event and explain it clearly — that shows genuine interest and awareness.

Most assessment centers also test quick reasoning and teamwork, so practice interpreting data under time pressure and communicating your thoughts concisely in group settings.
