At what point does interview coaching become worthwhile?

Hello,

I'm currently preparing for Investment Banking interviews using books, YouTube videos and online guides. So far it's going well, but I'm wondering whether there's a point where self-study reaches its limits.

Did coaching noticeably improve your interview performance, or do you think disciplined self-study is enough for most candidates?

Looking forward to hearing your experiences. Thanks!

Hi, there,

I think it depends quite a bit on where you are in your preparation. Self study can definitely take you a long way, especially if you have enough time and a clear structure.

For me, coaching became more useful once I had the basics down and wanted someone to point out things I wasn’t noticing myself. Getting feedback on how I was answering questions and how I came across in an interview was probably the biggest benefit. That said, I don’t think everyone necessarily needs coaching from the beginning. It can be helpful when you feel like you’re practicing a lot but are not really sure what you should improve.

Best,
Rita
