Hello! I recently applied to McKinsey & Co. I finished and submitted the Imbellus game about 2 weeks ago, my application still shows “ In progress". Is no news, usually good news when it comes to passing through the next round? I would appreciate any feedback on this matter, thank you.

Hi there,

Q: Is no news, usually good news when it comes to passing through the next round?

The time to get a reply after the Imbellus game varies. It might be within 2 weeks but can also be longer. The longest I heard was almost 2 months and the result was positive.

If you don’t hear back within a couple of weeks, you can follow up with HR to ask for feedback.

Good luck!

Francesco

Hi there,

That's a bit of a wild interpretation of radio-silence.

Generally speaking, no news is no news, which gradually turns into bad news with every day passing.

In your case, you're well within a reasonable response time and I wouldn't worry about anything yet. However, I certainly wouldn't get my hopes up either because of the non-reply.

All that being said, I hope you get a positive reply soon!

Moritz

Hi there,

you are still within the average range in terms of time it takes to receive feedback. You can't derive any conclusions from that yet. Hopefully you hear back before the holiday break. Companies often try to clear any pending items in their recruiting pipeline before year end - but then again, that can also vary by company and geography.

Fingers crossed

Hi there,

First of all, congratulations on the progress in the application process with McKinsey thus far!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, it's important not to jump to conclusions. Delays in feedback can happen for various reasons, and they don't necessarily imply a certain outcome.
  • Moreover, I would advise you to follow up with the recruiter. A polite e-mail reiterating your interest in the position and inquiring about the status of your application is entirely appropriate.
  • Lastly, while waiting, continue preparing for your upcoming interviews, either with McKinsey or other opportunities. This way, you're not losing momentum and are ready for whatever outcome.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi!

2 weeks is not a long waiting time.

I'd give them at least two more weeks before you follow-up with them.

Now because it's the end of the year (it will also be similar at the start of the year), recruiting is slower than usual.

In the meantime, I suggest you keep on applying to other roles as well to diversify your risk.

Good luck!
Cristian
