Next step after Imbellus/Solve Assessment...

Hi Everyone,

I'm an experience hire, I've applied for a Business Analyst Role at Mckinsey and I've been invited to do the Solve Assessment. Does anyone know/have any information with regards to, a) what does the game assess and most importantly, how is one measured/scored? And b) what is the recruiter looking for in the written Assessment that will make him/her invite you to an interview?

Thanks

Sindiso

Hi Sindiso,

1) Does anyone know/have any information with regards to, what does the game assess

You will have to solve two games. Since the launch of the Solve game, McKinsey has used 5 games. The most common nowadays are Ecosystem Management and Plant Defense

2) Most importantly how is one measured/scored?

You will be graded on both how you will reach the solution (they track what you click during the games) and the solution itself

3) What is the recruiter looking for in the written Assessment that will make him/her invite you to an interview?

The recruiter will simply get a score after the game. Based on that, they will invite you or not to the next round. In some offices, they will take into account both the game and an interview performance to let you move to the next round

In order to prepare, you can find at the link below a complete video simulation of the game  (full disclosure: I am the author ;):

https://www.preplounge.com/en/shop/tests-2/imbellus-combo-guide-videos-68

This includes:

  • 15 videos showing how to crack the Ecosystem Game in 23 minutes (instead of the recommended 35) and resist 25+ turns in the Plant Defense
  • Automated Excel with Formulas to build a chain in 16 minutes
  • PDF guide with all the 5 game scenarios and how to crack each of them (and not just the common ones)

If you have other questions please PM me, I will reply within 12 hours.

Best,

Francesco

Hello Sindiso,

I have had the chance to follow several candidates taking this test and I have written (together with them) a detailed guide on how to successfully approach Imbellus test.

The guide includes:

  • Detailed hands-on strategy to ace the Imbellus
  • Excel model with an algorithm to solve the first scenario
  • Hands-on example and practical tips to crack the game

On top of that, you will receive an interesting paper on Imbellus valuation metrics and a coupon code for a session with your purchase!

Feel free to text me if you are interested. You can find a screenshot of the excel model below.

Best,
Luca

Hi Sindiso,

First of all, congratulations on the invitation from McKinsey!

This is indeed an interesting question which is probably relevant for quite a lot of users, so I am happy to provide my perspective on it:

  • Generally speaking, I would highly advise you to google and look in the PrepLounge Consulting Q&A since there is already a lot of information about the McKinse Solve and the written assessment.
  • In case you might still have some follow-up questions, please feel free to contact me directly.

In case you want a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for the McKinsey Solve in an interactive, efficient way without reading lengthy guides, please feel free to contact me directly.

I hope this helps,

Hagen

Hi Hagen, Thanks for the info. Really helped. I did take a look at a few guides in order to prep for imbellus. Now I patiently wait on the recruiter to get back at me. Regards Sindiso

Hello!

It´s much better than the old test used to be.

It's a gamified test

Divided into 2 games, 1h to complete both of them:

1st one is a game about keeping an ecosystem balanced

2nd one is a defense game

It´s fun and there is not really a "way" to prep for it.

My advise would be to be fresh when you do it and pick a right enviroment -during my BCG test in their office there was construction in the patio and the screen was even shaking-.

Hope it helps!

Cheers,

Clara

Hi Sindiso,

There is plenty out there for this, but for most options you do need to pay.

I encourage you to do some googling and Q&A searching.
