Does anybody know if there are specific cases that are asked for the PE practice at McKinsey? how does the interview differ from a standard one?
McKinsey private equity interview

Cases will come from the same pool. Having said that, PE practice interviewers will tend to ask more PE related cases but the assessment criteria is the same. Good luck!

No difference - all practices generally have the same interviews. This includes a case from any industry and PEI. In other words, don't expect a PE case (you may still get one but it's not at all a given)
There are exceptions where people apply for Specialist roles e.g. in McKinsey Digital, which includes a more technical part. As for everything else, it's pretty standardized.
Hope this helps! Best of luck!

Hi Elisa,
You need to be prepared for any case type. Please don't fall into the trap of expecting any one thing!
Train yourself in solving any problem and case style - then you're guaranteed to not be let down!
In terms of prep, feel free to read through the following!
Behavioral/fit: https://www.preplounge.com/en/articles/tell-me-about-yourself-interview-question
Casing Mindset: https://www.preplounge.com/en/articles/how-to-shift-your-mindset-to-ace-the-case

Preparation is the same. You can actually get any type of case for PE. You can get growth strategy, market entry, M&A, profit optimization… Of course, you may have a bit more of “investment decisions”, but that's it.
