Mckinsey First Round - Haven't heard back

Hi there,

I completed my first round of interview with Mckinsey on Tuesday, where the interviewer mentioned that I will potentially hear back latest by the end of the week. However, I have not received any news since then. Could that mean that my chances to progress might be lower? Thanks !

Hi there,

This is indeed an interesting question which is probably relevant for quite a lot of users, so I am happy to provide my perspective on it:

While generally speaking, the earlier the feedback the better, there exist several reasons why it might take longer (than anticipated), e.g. there is a technical issue with the results of the McKinsey Imbellus or your first round interviewer hasn't yet found the time to provide or discuss your performance.

In case you want a more detailed discussion on the best way to prepare for the second round at McKinsey, please feel free to contact me directly.

I hope this helps,

Hagen

Hi there,

Really difficult to say:

  • Usually, the earlier you hear back, the better
  • However, there could be several reasons why the feedback may be postponed (busy consultants, delays in completing the process for other candidates, holidays)

If you don’t hear back within one week, you can contact HR and ask for feedback, there is no issue with that.

Best,

Francesco

Hi there,

Try not to worry too much here - a lot of reasons exist for why the call-back may be delayed.

Just practice patience. If they don't get back to you by mid/late next week, feel free to send them a followup email.

Hi Ian, That's what I did today and got a call immediately from one of my interviewers :)

I suggest that you follow up directly with HR since it has past the end of week already (completely fine to do so). There are many potential reasons for a delay.

Good luck! Please let me know how it goes

There is absolutely no correlation, my friend.

Just be a bit more patient. “No news” is “no news”. Don't read much into it.

Hi Agrim, Sure, will definitely take note on this! Though it is definitely nerve wrecking having to wait for the news over the long week

Hey there,

Simply put, you are still in the game and the delay has nothing to do with the potential outcome of the interview; likely just busy interviewers.

Cheers,

Florian

How was your imbellus Result? I totally bombed it hence I’m not expecting a call.

I wasn't sure how I did for my Imbellus test as I failed one of the mini games but the recruiting team got back to me the next day that they will be offering me the interview opportunity. So don't worry too much about it !

What do you mean when you say you failed the minigame? I was just able to cross the 15th step in the last stage

Hello,

Please don't worry - as other experts have pointed out, no news is just no news, and there are plenty of reasons as to why the response might be taking a bit longer, this is absolutely no indication of a rejection. If it takes more than a few weeks, there's no harm in reaching out to your recruiter to see whether they have an update.

Hi!

I wouldn't say that. Reach out to them if you don't hear back within a week.

Best,

Hi there,

Answer times vary widely. You can expect anything from the same day until 2 weeks later.

Anything beyond two weeks is somewhat suspicious but you should still reach out and ask for an update on your application.

Best,
Cristian
