Mckinsey 4 rounds interview & Candidate experience mail

Had 4 rounds of interview for Senior Analyst level- internal role with McKinsey & Company .3 went well.
In last round HR got a feedback from director that he needs some time for internal discussions to check the fit as he is not sure about it.
What does that mean?
Should I loose all hope?

PS. - Also, today received a "Recruiting candidate experience survey" over mail from McKinsey & Company after appearing for all the mandate rounds of interview before letting me know if I am accepted/rejected.

Why would the company give me such a survey before making a final hiring decision?

Hi there,

Nikita is exactly right here: you're borderline right now and very much on the fence.

They're trying to figure out if they take a leap of faith on you.

Don't lose hope: You're probably 50/50 at this point

But, while you should hope for the best, you should also plan for the worst. Keep networking with and applying to other firms.

(The survey doesn't mean anything one way or the other)

Fingers crossed for you!

Thank you for the reply. Is it really important to fill the survey before getting a final result of the interviews ? As per the feedback the HR is not picking up any calls now. She mentioned over the call 3 days back that if I will be considered as a finalist then there will be an additional - behavioural check round again within a day but after that she didn't bother to revert. Also, on the Mckinsey career page the application status is still : Submitted - in progress.

My pleasure! The survey has 0 impact on any decision they make. Please stop spamming the HR given you spoke to them only 3 days ago - this CAN impact the decision they make.

Hello!

Not sugar-coating the answer: the director isn't sure if he wants to work with you. There's either a genuine concern about your qualifications for the position or he isn't sure he likes your personality.

This happens more often when you'd think though as personal preferences play a huge part in recruiting decisions. Sometimes there's just not enough chemistry with the interviewer and it's nobody's fault really.

Regardless of their final decision, know that you've done everything you could and if you've managed to come this far, you are able to land an offer with either McK or another Top Tier Company.

Good luck!
Nick

Thank you for the reply. It's just that all the rounds ended on a very positive note. I applied for Analyst level but got promoted to Senior Analyst in the 2nd round itself. Even the final - director round ended on a positive note with him saying - he would be happy in working together but then in feedback the HR mentioned that he needs some time to decide & now HR is not picking up calls only. It's soul crushing all together.

I understand your feelings, but you need to try and chill out for now. Bombarding them with calls will not make matters better, if not worse. If they are undecided, give them time to figure it out. In any case, consider your selection process a good learning experience.

Hi there,

1) In the last round HR got feedback from the director that he needs some time for internal discussions to check the fit as he is not sure about it. What does that mean? Should I lose all hope?

This means that they are not entirely sure if they’re going to hire you or not. You shouldn’t lose hope. Until they give you their final decision, you still have a chance. Sometimes in these cases they propose an extra interview.

2) Why would the company give me such a survey before making a final hiring decision?

This is probably something they send to every candidate who completes the process for feedback.

Good luck!

Hi,

It can be nerve wracking, but ultimately you've done your best and this is out of your hands now. My take on this is - until the final decision is made, I would not give up hope.

In terms of the experience survey, if you've finished all planned rounds, then the process is complete - therefore my sense is that they are surveying you based on the process of the planned rounds and the experience of that. I would not read too much into that.

All the best!

Hi there!

I would't read too much into the survey. It's probably an automated email that all candidates receive while going through the process.

Sometimes they also organise additional interview rounds when they're on the fence about a certain candidate. That doesn't necessarily reflect on you. They could also be on the fence because just recently they reached the target number of offers they were planning on extending.

Also, from what I've seen, most cases when they create an additional round to make a decision about a candidate turn into an offer. So things are more likely to work out than not.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
Best,
Cristian
