Some people I’ve asked say it doesn’t matter, but I need to make a decision.
What would you do, and what is the safest option?

Hi there,
Safest option: Tie
What I would do: Tie
What I did when acing all 8 of my consulting firm interviews: Tie

Hi,
I wore ties to all my interviews - that is the safest and nobody will think you are ‘over dressing’.
Lastly, typically it does not matter as long as you are formal enough (e.g. don't show up in a t shirt).
All the best!
The best option is the one that makes you feel most prepared. If wearing a tie means you show up for the interview feeling better and more confident then do it.
Hi there,
Q: MBB interviews - Tie or no tie? What would you do, and what is the safest option?
The safest option is to overdress rather than to underdress - wearing a tie can’t hurt. As mentioned by Moritz, don’t be surprised if the person interviewing you isn’t wearing a tie.
Good luck!
Francesco
Hi there!
If you're giving this question so much importance, then it might be better for your self-perception to overdress rather than not.
Most consultants don't wear ties. Just suit and shirt. There are only a couple of industries where ties are more present and then consultants dress to reflect the client's dress code.
Best,
Cristian

Hey,
Tie is the safest option.
Good luck with the interview!
Nick
Hi there,
Obviously the safest option is with tie.
Consultants in real life rarely wear one (I never did during 2.5 years with McKinsey) but they’re not the ones being interviewed ;)
So don’t be surprised if your interviewer shows up in a hoodie and just roll with it in your best business look!
Best of luck!
Moritz
