Hi all,

I have a consulting interview with the infrastructure and control project department.
Any clue how to prepare for such interview? Will it be a general case study or related to infrastructure?

Hi there,

Impossible to tell without knowing the company. Hence, the best advice anyone can give would be to prepare for any type of case interview.

That being said, you may indeed get an infrastructure case, which typically these elements (non-exhaustive):

  • Disruption: Depending on where the project is located (busy city center or remote site), construction can be quite disruptive and needs the right capabilities to be carried out safely and efficiently
  • Return on investment: if this is private sector the return is generally financial, whereas public sector often has another return criteria related to wider economic drivers
  • Operations: Infrastructure typically enables a flow of some kind e.g. road, airport, bridge, etc. and you'll likely have to perform some calculations in that regard
  • Longevity: Infrastructure projects are typically very long term and will need maintenance and to stay relevant for a long time to justify the investment

Hope these pointers help a bit in case anything related to infrastructure comes up!

Best of luck!

Hi there,

You left out the company and role!

That said, you are more likely to get inf + control projects but the general rule of casing/interviews is to be prepared for anything. Learn how to break down and approach any problem and you will be fine!

As you prepare for the interview, you can read this article here: https://www.preplounge.com/en/articles/how-to-shift-your-mindset-to-ace-the-case

And this article for the behavioral portion: https://www.preplounge.com/en/articles/tell-me-about-yourself-interview-question

Hello,

This will depend on the firm and the role! But in general I think Ian said it best - it might be worth placing more emphasis on infrastructure and control cases in your prep generally, but nothing is off the table for interviews so you should work on other cases too.
