How can I tell if McKinsey has blocked me?

In case I applied to McKinsey and got rejected. Will I be able able to submit an application online normally? will the application be submitted yet frozen or will the system not allow me to submit the application?

I have never encountered McKinsey blocking anyone from making an application. If you’ve applied and not been successful, especially if you were not successful in round 1, I would recommend waiting a year before making an application. This is because you need time to grow and be able to nail the interview second time round. If you want to re-apply sooner you can, but it would be worth talking to the recruiting team about what went wrong and why you think you’re better set to be successful this time round. McKinsey knows that people grow and so I would be shocked if anyone was blocked from re-applying. I know multiple people who have been successful on their second or even third attempt.

You can always apply - there is no blocking there. But if you do not qualify based on being rejected in the recent past, your application will be rejected.

There is no point trying to game the system - the 2 year rule is to make sure you have a stronger case to present when re-applying so trying to circumvent that does not do you any good.

Hello,

If I understand what you are asking correctly, McKinsey does not block anyone from applying, and you should be able to apply online. However, there is a 12 month ban on reapplication if you have been rejected. So, if you have been rejected within the past 12 months, you will not be able to reapply just yet.

Hi there,

If you applied and got rejected you are automatically “blocked” in the sense that you will have a 1-2 year ban.

Work on your experiences + resume + networking in the meantime…and apply to the dozens upon dozens of other great consulting firms out there!
