EY Interview

I'm interviewing with EY on the Transaction and Execution sector this week. Outside of the norms for consulting interviews; are there any EY-specific ‘fit’ behaviours they look for?

Hi Fyn,

in terms of general fit behaviors as you call them, EY will not be fundamentally different from other consulting and advisory firms. What I suggest you do though is to familiarize yourself with EY's corprorate values / behaviors (can be found on the company website) and think of related experience stories accordingly.

In general, they will typically grill you on some of the classic motivational questions…

  1. Walk them through your CV
  2. Why this industry
  3. Why EY
  4. Why You
  5. Development areas
  6. Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years
  7. What's your biggest achievement / failure
  8. Who are you outside of work

I think you get the gist - think through a bit how you can tackle these in a substantiated yes concise and structured manner and you'll be fine.

In addition think of some common behavioral stories ("Tell me about a time when …") so you can showcase your specific experiences in terms of leadership, impact, team work, conflict management etc in an equally structured manner.

Feel free to reach out to me or other coaches, oif you'd like to work on these kind of skills specifically. Happy to help.

Hope this helps.

Regards, Andi

Hi Fyn,

Q: Are there any EY-specific ‘fit’ behaviours they look for?

I am not specifically familiar with the Transaction and Execution practice at EY, but for most firms the fit questions are quite similar. You will need a unique answer for “Why EY”. Besides that, Andi provided a good sum up.

As a general list, I would recommend to review the following:

  1. Tell me about yourself
  2. Why consulting
  3. Give me an example of when you led a team
  4. Tell me about a time when you had to convince someone
  5. What has been your major achievement so far
  6. Tell me about a time when you failed
  7. Why should we hire you

Good luck!

Francesco

Hi Fyn!

With the candidates that I had for EY the questions were similar as with other Big4.

Have a short chat with HR though to figure out what to expect in terms of format of the interview. This way you'll avoid unpleasant surprises and you can also be more targeted with your prep.

To begin with, it would be useful to understand whether from a case perspective, you can expect cases from any industry / topic or it will be targeted only at Transactions.

Best,
Cristian

Hello,

The traits that consulting companies look at within consulting tend to be quite similar. I am not aware of any specific ones for EY.
