Can I apply to more than one Oliver Wyman office?

Hello Community,

I have just submitted my OW London application, but want to apply to another office as well. Is that feasible or would it hurt my chances?

I have also applied to OW Amsterdam on March 2023, but my CV has changed a lot from then. Should I create a whole other account for this new application?

Applying to multiple offices within a consulting firm like Oliver Wyman is generally feasible and is a common practice. However, there are a few important considerations to keep in mind:

  1. Timing: If you have already submitted an application to the London office and want to apply to another office, it's important to consider the timing of your applications. Some firms may have policies or preferences regarding how closely spaced multiple applications can be. You should check with the specific firm's recruitment guidelines or contact their HR department for clarification.
  2. Application Process: Some firms have a centralized application system where you can select multiple office preferences in a single application. In such cases, you can specify your preferred offices within a single application. However, if the application systems are separate for each office, you will need to create a new application for each office you are interested in.
  3. Updating Your CV: If your CV has changed significantly since your previous application to the Amsterdam office in March 2023, it's advisable to update your CV to reflect your most current experiences and accomplishments. When you create a new application, make sure to submit the updated CV that accurately represents your qualifications.
  4. Multiple Accounts: Creating multiple accounts on the firm's application portal is generally not recommended, as it can lead to confusion and may not be in compliance with the firm's application policies. Instead, use the same account to create a new application for the Amsterdam office and ensure that you update your application materials accordingly.
  5. Tailoring Your Application: When applying to different offices, be sure to tailor your application materials (resume, cover letter, etc.) to each specific location. Highlight your interest in working in that particular office and how your skills and experiences align with the needs of that office.
  6. Interview Preferences: If you are invited to interview with multiple offices, be prepared to express your preferences and provide reasons for your choices during the interview process.

Overall, applying to multiple offices within a consulting firm is a common practice, but it should be done thoughtfully and in accordance with the firm's application guidelines. Tailoring your application materials and expressing genuine interest in each office can enhance your chances of success.

Hi there,

1) I have just submitted my OW London application, but want to apply to another office as well. Is that feasible or would it hurt my chances?

If you didn’t have the option to select multiple offices, I would just keep the current application (unless you really prefer the new one, in which case you might withdraw the application and apply again). If you did have the option, you can contact HR to ask if you can add a second choice.

2) I also applied to OW Amsterdam in March 2023, but my CV has changed a lot from then. Should I create a whole other account for this new application?

If I understood correctly, you applied to London with the old CV. In this case, you can reach out to HR and send them an updated version.

Best,

Francesco

Hi there!

For big consulting firms, you can only have one application ongoing. So that means that you can't apply to different roles or different offices in parallel.

If you basically send out an application already somewhere else you'd need to withdraw it or create a new account altogether.

In general, I'd recommend to diversify as much as you can beyond one firm. The more you're interviewing with, the better your chances of at least convering one into an offer - think of it as a funnel. You can read more about how to develop an application strategy at the following link:

Hi there,

Yes, but you need to do that when submitting your application.

There should be an option to select multiple offices when you apply.

Given you have already submitted, you can try to reach out to both HR and the person that referred you, to ask if you can be considered for multiple offices.

Hello,

Submitting applications to multiple offices within the same firm is feasible, but it's essential to ensure consistency and align your motivations with each specific location. Tailor your application to highlight why you're interested in each office.

Regarding your updated CV, it's a good practice to create a new account for your OW Amsterdam application. This allows you to present your most current qualifications and experiences accurately.

Warm regards, Frederic
