BCG Associate

I applied for the BCG Associate position and my application was selected as the recruiting team sent me a mail and the status on my BCG page is “Application Under Review”

“The first round includes our online case-assessment and a 45-minute live case interview with a BCGer via Zoom. The second round will consist of two 45-minute back-to-back case interviews with BCGers via Zoom.”

Now I have 2 round interviews to prepare for but I need help with the preparation. Any tips? Any leads for prep?

Thank you

Hi there,

Congrats on the invitation!

A few pointers:

  • Focus on quality over quantity. Doing 50+ cases does not mean much if you are not applying the right habits to score high and perform a detailed debrief after every case to improve. Learn the right approach first (I have a book called The 1%: Conquer Your Consulting Interview). You want to move from bad to good for your weaknesses and good to great for your strengths --> use the book to understand the differences, then use feedback to tailor your prep accordingly
  • Consider booking at least an initial coaching session to get a detailed and objective evaluation of your performance + learn the right habits for every case regardless of context and framework + get a tailored preparation plan out of the session that will set you up for an effective and efficient prep.
  • Practice drills alone (structure, chart, math) and practice full cases with other excellent candidates who know the right habits and approach. You must be practicing with really good peers, otherwise, it's a waste of time. Practicing drills on your own is a huge effectiveness and efficiency booster since you can go over many more questions in a shorter amount of time compared to practicing with peers. Do both in parallel!
  • Invest extra time into weak areas
  • Learn market sizing (very common in BCG)
  • Don't forget the fit interview. Prepare answers and a strong tactic for any fit interview question and practice with peers (it's also covered in the book mentioned above).

All the best with your prep!

Cheers,

Florian
