Hello

I am interviewing with Artefact for the position of Data Strategy Consultant

I would love to know how the business cases for such position might differ from regular management consulting and what are the best resources to prepare for it

Hi Hasan,

First of all, congratulations on the invitation from Artefact!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, while I do not know Artefact specifically, general preparation for case studies is very similar across different specializations. The core principles of problem identification, hypothesis formulation, data analysis, and recommendation generation remain the same.
  • Moreover, for a Data Strategy Consultant role, you should anticipate a greater focus on data interpretation and utilization. This may include being presented with larger data sets and being expected to derive meaningful insights. You could potentially face more scenarios where you need to recommend data-driven strategies.
  • Lastly, I would highly advise you to start with PrepLounge's Case Interview Basics. It gives an excellent start on the foundations. You could then also search for data science-related case studies in PrepLounge's Case Library. That should give you a sense of the specific challenges and solutions in this area.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

Hi Hasan,

Congrats on the interview!

Ok, so first of all, most of the same case prep rules will apply: https://www.preplounge.com/en/articles/pitfalls-case-interview-preparation

As in, get good at casing, in general (as long as they have confirmed they will have typical cases).

Here's how to think about them: https://www.preplounge.com/en/articles/how-to-shift-your-mindset-to-ace-the-case

That said, you should expect more technical cases and more brainstorming questions testing your expertise. As in, make sure that you're reading their white papers + site to understand the main areas they work/consult in. Then, make sure you can speak to those areas.

Here are some more tech-related cases I have written:

Hi Hasan!

Congrats on approaching the interview!

I haven't yet worked with a candidate who was specifically applying to Artefact, but there are two things that I would suggest:

1. Contact HR and ask more about the format of the interview. It would be useful to know whether they offer cases from a specific industry or general cases, whether it's interviewer-led or candidate-led, and so on. The more information you can gather, the better. This will allow you to be more targeted with your prep.

2. Reach out via LinkedIn to recent hires at Artefact and ask them about their own recruitment process and whether they have any recommendations for you in terms of how to prepare. Since they're recent hires they are more likely to respond to you and provide advice that is still applicable.

Best of luck with the prep!
Cristian

Hi Hasan,

congratulations on scoring the interview. Do you know how technical the role will be? As alluded to by the others, it could lean more towards a Digital Consultant type of role or it could involve you having to knowing how to implement Data solutions, like a Data Scientist or IT/Data Architect type of role.

If it is the former, the typical case study preparation is probably sufficient.

Judging from Artefact's website, they see themselves as a “data & AI consultancy”, so they might test you for knowing how to bring the solutions to fruition as well.

In this case, it could involve more analytical interview types, such as a Technical Experience Interview (TEI) or Coding challenges, probing how you think about solving a specific data/AI challenge.

If you find out it is the latter, I suggest getting familiar with solving these type of challenges as well. I do have a case on these, let me know if you'd like to go through it.

All the best,
Jan
