Joining ECON as a physicist (PhD) without consulting experience

Interview mit Uta Richter, Senior Consultant bei E.ON Inhouse Consulting Bei welcher Art von Projekten hast du bei ECON mitgearbeitet? Ich bin jetzt seit fast drei Jahren bei E.ON Inhouse Consulting und als Fazit würde ich sagen, jedes Projekt war anders. Ich habe von strategischen Investitionsentscheidungen, Post-Merger Integration, Business Prozessoptimierungen bis zu Digitalisierungsthemen alles gesehen.  Funktional waren meine Projekte bisher zum größten Teil im Business-to-Business Solutions Bereich und E.ON‘s Netzgeschäft aufgehangen. Generell haben wir als ECON aber natürlich auch viele Projekte im Business-to-Consumer und Business-to-Municipalities Solutions Bereich.  In meinem aktuellen Projekt arbeiten wir mit E.ON‘s Digital Technologies Abteilung an der Realisierung von E.ON‘s Cloud Strategie zusammen. Müssen Kandidatinnen und Kandidaten schon Erfahrungen im Bereich Energie gesammelt haben? Ein energiebezogener Hintergrund ist definitiv keine notwendige Voraussetzung, um bei ECON zu starten. Wichtig ist vielmehr, dass ihr euch für die Energieindustrie interessiert. Ich hatte in meinem CEMS International Management Studium an sich keinen Bezug zur Energieindustrie. Erste Berührungspunkte hatte ich in meinem Auslandssemester in Norwegen, wo ich mich auf Energy Economics spezialisiert habe. Das hat mir vielleicht etwas in einem Projekt mit E.ON‘s Energy Markets Abteilung geholfen, welche sich um die Portfoliooptimierung und die Beschaffung von Energie am Wholesale Markt kümmert.  Hier geht es zum Interview mit Denisa Valsova.

 Wie würdest Du ECON in 2-3 Sätzen beschreiben?ECON ist für mich persönlich charakterisiert von einer besonderen Kultur, Weiterentwicklung und Entrepreneurship. Kultur, weil wir eine besondere, kollaborative Teamatmosphäre haben, aufeinander achten, Mindfulness praktizieren und gemeinsam vielen Themen neben der Arbeit (z.B. D&I und Nachhaltigkeit) vorantreiben. Weiterentwicklung, weil wir viele Trainings zur professionellen und persönlichen Weiterentwicklung erhalten, regelmäßiges Feedback in unseren Standardprozessen verankert ist und zusätzliche Mentoren bekommen, welche unsere Weiterentwicklung betreuen. Entrepreneurship, weil jeder Input, unabhängig von Hierarchiestufe, gleich viel wert ist und bei uns jeder willkommen ist, Ideen und Verbesserungsvorschläge einzubringen. Damit haben wir die Möglichkeit, selbst Dinge bei ECON zu gestalten und zu verändern. Wie bist Du auf ECON aufmerksam geworden?Während meines Masterstudiums war ich Stipendiatin beim e-fellows.net Netzwerk. ECON hat damals ein Recruitingevent zum Thema Nachhaltigkeit angeboten, welches in einem Design Thinking Sprint angeboten wurde und unter anderem über e-fellows.net vermarktet wurde. Die Mischung aus dem Thema Nachhaltigkeit und der Methode Design Thinking fand ich spannend, weshalb ich mich bei dem Event beworben habe und eine Zusage erhalten habe. ECON hat mich dann während des Events durch die Kultur und Arbeitsmoral überzeugt. Wie verlief Dein Bewerbungsprozess bei ECON? Nach dem Recruiting Event habe ich von ECON eine Einladung erhalten, in den Recruitingprozess einzusteigen. Das Event hat dabei das erste, telefonische Interview ersetzt. Mein Bewerbungsprozess hat sich daher auf die Einreichung meiner aktuellen Bewerbungsunterlagen, ein telefonisches Vorbereitungsgespräch sowie das Assessment-Center mit Case Studies beschränkt. Wie hast Du Dich auf Dein Case Interview vorbereitet? Durch das telefonische Vorbereitungsgespräch mit ECON HR hatte ich einen guten Überblick, wie die Case-Interviews ablaufen werden. ECON hatte außerdem einen beispielhaften Case auf der Internetseite, welchen ich zur Übung herangezogen haben. Meine Hauptvorbereitung habe ich allerdings mit dem Buch „Case Study Training für Consultants“ von e-fellows.net durchgeführt, in Ergänzung mit einigen Cases aus dem Internet. Des Weiteren habe ich mein Wissen zur Energiebranche und deren Fachbegriffe durch Internet-Recherche erhöht. Diese Vorbereitung hat mich sehr gut auf den Interview-Tag vorbereitet. Klingt spannend?
