Say a candidate garners strong support from one of the interviewers, but the other is on the fence or indifferent but not necessarily actively opposed.
What would happen in practice in this scenario?

Do the best you can on each interview. Period.
After the interview no amount of thinking about it will change the outcome.
I know, easier said than done.
If one interviewer does not want to hire you, then they won't. They *might* have a 3rd round but it's unlikely.
If the 2nd one is on the fence, they still may not hire. They are more likely to hire (if the other is a strong believer and has sway) and they are also more likely to have a 3rd round.
Hi!
That's a great question.
In practice, if they don't agree, then it's most likely a fail. It's a bit like rocket launchers in a submarine - you need two people to turn the key.
What I've also seen in several situations was that a third / additional round was organised. They then made the final decisions based on this last interview.
Good luck!
Cristian

Hi there,
Q: What happens in practice when 2nd round interviewers disagree?
This might also depend on the firm, but usually there are two possible outcomes:
Best,
Francesco
Hello!
On 1st round that would typically end up on moving to 2nd round interviews to validate (specially if one is very supportive).
On 2nd round, if only one is supportive, it wouldn't be enough to get an offer. You might get asked to do a 3rd interview to prove yourself or the adventure could stop there.
Best of luck in the process - cheers!
Nicolas
Hi there,
Two important points to consider together in this scenario:
Hope this clears things up a bit. Best of luck!

Depends on how strong the first round feedback was. If you are just supposed to meet the bar again vs. outperform, then you might get away with 2nd round interviewers not agreeing. Warm regards, Frederic
Hi there,
Interviewers need to agree on next steps. If there are two strong opposing opinions, most likely you would be invited to an additional interview to prove dimensions where interviewers disagree.
Best,
Alberto
