Tech consulting to strategy as an experienced hire?

Hi All,

I have a question on how to switch from tech (ERP consulting) to strategy (Management consulting) as an experienced hire.

I have close to 5 years of experience in Oracle Consulting and mostly working on implementation projects as a functional consultant. I am currently working at the one of the Big4 and try to get myself in strategy side of the house but I find it hard to transfer from Oracle service line to Strategy internally. Since I already did my Master's, I can't go back to school again to do MBA anytime soon and apply fresh to MBB.

What are your recommendations to do this transition?  How can I get myself to MBB from Big 4 Tech consulting? Should I do it asap or later in my career when promoted to manager level in Oracle consulting?

Thank you!

Hi,

Were you able to make your way to MBB?

Hi,

  • With 5 years of experience in tech consulting, you can apply directly to Mck / BCG digital teams.
  • You don't need an MBA since it will not be a career transition (you are already a consultant in that sense) and you have enough years of experience.
  • Manager role is nice to have but not mandatory as well (since you'll be most probably downgraded to the consultant anyway)
