Simon-kucher ITALY

Hey everyone,

I'm considering an opportunity at Simon-Kucher's Milan office and I'd really appreciate some candid feedback from anyone with first-hand experience. Glassdoor reviews are mostly US/Germany-focused and I'm struggling to find info specific to the Italian office.

A few things I'd love to hear about:

Hours & WLB: What does a typical week actually look like for a junior/mid-level consultant in Milan? How much travel is involved (domestic vs. international projects)?

Transferable skills: SK is known for pricing, but how narrow is the work in practice? Do you also get exposure to go-to-market strategy, commercial due diligence, or is it 90% pricing analytics? How transferable are the skills once you leave?

Exit opportunities: Where have Milan alumni actually landed? Is the SK brand strong enough in Italy to open doors for corporate strategy / commercial roles, or does it fly under the radar compared to MBB / Big4 Strategy?

Culture & environment: How big is the Milan team? How's the relationship with partners, mentorship-driven or more sink-or-swim? How transparent is the promotion process?

Any insight is appreciated, DMs are open too if you'd rather not share publicly. Thanks!

Hi there,

I don't have direct experience with SK Milan, but I think the best answers to your questions will come from current hires at that office.

Try to target people in the same role you'd like to apply for. Send a quick message to a few, and typically at least a couple will answer.

Hours and WLB. Better than MBB, expect 50 to 60 hour weeks. Travel is moderate, mostly domestic.

Skills. Mostly pricing and commercial excellence, but also go-to-market, commercial due diligence, and segmentation.

Exits. Strong for in-house pricing and commercial roles. Less automatic than MBB for general corporate strategy. PE portfolio commercial roles are common.

Culture. Mid-sized office, partner-driven, mentorship varies. Promotion slower than MBB but transparent.

Ask interviewers about case mix and recent alumni destinations.

Good luck.

hi!

They are generally seen as solid but quite different from the US/Germany offices you find on Glassdoor. Hours are usually lighter than MBB but still consulting‑like, with most juniors in Milan reporting something around 50–60 hours in a normal week and spikes depending on the project; travel is limited and mostly domestic. The work isn’t 90 percent pricing, Milan does a fair mix of pricing, go‑to‑market, and commercial topics, though it’s still more commercially focused than strategy‑heavy firms. Skills transfer well into commercial roles, revenue growth teams, and scale‑ups, and in Italy the SK brand is known enough to get you into corporate strategy or commercial excellence roles, even if it’s not as strong as MBB. Culture tends to be friendly and partner‑accessible because the office is smaller, but that also means expectations can feel high and the environment a bit sink‑or‑swim at times.
