Senior AI Tech Architect at BCG Platinion - Final Interview Advice

Congrats on making it to the final round.

Building on what the others have already mentioned, I’d prepare three additional things that can help you show seniority in a conversation with two Managing Directors:

1. Be ready to explain when AI is not the right answer.
For a Senior AI Architect role, I would expect them to value judgment as much as technical depth. Being able to explain when a simpler, cheaper or more robust solution would make more sense than AI can be a strong signal that you are thinking about the client problem rather than the technology itself.

2. Prepare a couple of disagreement stories.
Especially situations where you had to push back on a senior stakeholder, defend an architectural decision, or even change your own view when new information emerged. Those examples can reveal a lot about your influence, maturity and flexibility.

3. Practise explaining the same architecture decision at different levels of depth.
For example, be able to explain it in 30 seconds with two clear headlines, then in 2–3 minutes with the core reasoning, and finally in more technical detail if they want to drill down.

This is particularly useful with Managing Directors, because their styles can vary a lot: some want a very concise executive answer, while others will want to go several layers deeper. Being able to adapt quickly to that style can make the conversation feel much more natural.

Congrats on reaching the final round!

For senior Platinion roles, the real difference is the content. Expect to have to apply a mature understanding of IT architecture, project management, AI, and your specific area of expertise.

For this session, expect them to essentially test your “Experienced” portion :)

You need to be prepared to talk about your past projects and roles. Highlight how much knowledge you have in AI and architecture. More importantly, persuade them that you have had real impact and led teams, clients, and projects with your expertise.

At this level, it is actually quite rare that a formal case is given. Rather, you should expect more brainstorming questions.

Be prepared to discuss big technology questions such as:

1) Buy versus build

2) Monoliths versus microservices and API based architecture

3) Transformation strategies

4) Agile at scale

5) AI architecture, data, governance, implementation, and value

Given what the recruiter told you, also be ready to discuss why BCG and Platinion, why the Architecture Chapter, what you want from career development, and how you would contribute to the culture.

You might be able to think “out of the box” when applying for a generalist role, but there's no getting around needing to really know your topic area to get a Platinion role.

I’d focus less on technical preparation and more on demonstrating seniority. Be ready to discuss 2 to 3 projects in depth, especially your personal contribution, architectural decisions, challenges and measurable impact. For the culture and career development part, have a very clear view of why Platinion, why this Architecture Chapter and how you want to develop and contribute at Senior level.

With two Managing Directors, I’d also expect the conversation to be quite open and discussion based, so don’t overprepare scripted answers. Show that you can communicate complex AI and architecture topics clearly to senior stakeholders and think commercially.

For a senior final round, prepare each project as evidence of judgment—not as a technical tour of everything you built.

Choose two or three projects and prepare each in four layers:

1. Decision: what business or client problem had to be solved, and what options were on the table?

2. Trade-off: which architectural choices did you make, what constraints mattered, and what did you deliberately not optimize for?

3. Influence: how did you align senior stakeholders, challenge a direction, or lead the team through uncertainty?

4. Outcome and reflection: what changed in measurable or operational terms, and what would you do differently now?

Practise explaining the same project in two minutes and in ten minutes. Managing Directors may move quickly from the headline to a challenge, disagreement, or failure, so be precise about your personal contribution rather than saying “we” throughout.

Also prepare a clear answer to why Platinion, why this Architecture Chapter, and why now. Connect that motivation to the work you want to do and the value you would bring—not only to the technologies you find interesting. If they ask technical questions, use the same pattern: clarify the objective, state the relevant trade-offs, and link the architecture back to business value, risk, and implementation.

Finally, bring two thoughtful questions about the chapter’s work and how senior architects are expected to contribute. That will make the conversation more two-way and help you assess the role as well.

To give you useful advice, it would help to understand what the format of this last round will be. For instance, will you have a case element, or is it only personal fit questions, is it more story based, is it like a technical experience interview...? Ask the recruiter to clarify this and then you can tailor your prep accordingly.
