Received a 2nd round interview from MBB office, but never applied for the role

Hi all,

Last week I received an email from an MBB firm stating that I'd received an invite to second round interview for an AC role. The email contained online timeslots to book interview times through zoom.

This would be great, except I never applied for this role or office (Office is in the US, I am in Europe) and have had 0 interview with the firm prior to this. The email specifically came from a recruiter at so called firm (checked their LinkedIn profile), I sent an email asking what was going on but have not yet received a reply.

My hunch is that this is a HR mistake as I have previously applied to the firm and have a profile on their recruiting portal, they mistakenly sent this email to me instead of who was supposed to receive it.

Has anyone heard of this happening before/has any ideas what's going on here?

Thanks

Hey there,

This seems to be either a

  • mistake on the recruiter's part (similar name and did not double check + autocomplete in the mail program)
  • spam email

I'd try to call them and clarify.

Cheers,

Florian

Hi there,

This really seems a mistake / bug. If you have already called / sent an email I guess the only think you can do is to wait their reply (if you want to followup, I would call them again instead of sending an email).

Best,

Francesco

Hi there. What an odd situation. My sense is that this could be a fishy email (those that steal your personal info after you click the link).

My suggestion is, don't use the link in the email. Go to the company's official website, find their official contact, forward this email to that address and asking what's going on.

Hope this helps!

Hi there,

How long ago did you apply?

I know the Dollar Store and Walmart are reaching out to applications from 4 or 5 months ago, so this could be a case of that :P

Jokes aside, if you didn't apply in the past few months  and didn't interview this is indeed a bug/mistake. Just reach out to HR to let them know!

Why don't you just go for it. Lol.
