McK R2 timeline

I had my final McK interview on Friday (6/5) and was flown to NYO. My preference was Chicago office but for some reason I had to fly to NY for the interviewing event (multiple people interviewing for the same practice? Not quite sure) My last interview ended at 4pm ET and the last interviewer (virtual from Chicago) said they will try to get back as soon as possible but by Monday for sure. I did not hear anything back Friday night and flew back home. Should I still have hopes for an offer call on Monday? interviewers seemed impressed and happy overall, i don’t think I messed up anything and they agreed with me and gave positive feedback during the interview

hi Ines!

It mean anything negative. McKinsey almost never gives same‑day decisions after R2, even when the interviews go really well. When an interviewer says “by Monday,” that’s exactly the timeline they usually follow, decisions are consolidated across offices and practices, which takes time. Being flown to NYO and getting positive signals in the interviews are both good signs. You should absolutely still expect a possible offer call on Monday.

Hi Ines,

Usually they are pretty fast in providing the recruitment feedback but not hearing back the same day is pretty much the norm, as it requires alignment across multiple interviewers, recruiters, and office leadership (for the last rounds).

I would not overanalyze the timing and simply wait until Monday. A Monday offer call would be completely normal.

Good luck!

Ines,

You should absolutely be hopeful for a call today.

It's normal that it takes a while for them to communicate an answer. I waited about 10 days until I heard back from McKinsey after my final round (dreadful wait). So try not to read too much into it.

Hope you get good news!
Best,
Cristian

Your situation is more positive than you think.

Strong signals. Flying you to NYO despite Chicago preference means they're seriously considering you. Specific "by Monday for sure" timeline commitment leans positive, vague "we'll be in touch" is more common for ambiguous outcomes. Chicago interviewer being involved is also good, the office is actively engaged in your evaluation.

Why no Friday response is fine. Debriefs happen Monday morning, interviewers don't usually have authority to make offer calls Friday evening.

What to expect Monday. Phone call from recruiter or Partner. Stay reachable, keep your phone on.

Don't follow up before Monday, signals anxiety. Don't accept on the spot if offered.

Good luck.
