Math question

I structured the Math wrong (forgot some growth rates), but did the computations and calculations perfect and got the right result. Would this be a failed part or will they compare it with other interviewers? Because it was the only time I messed up quant in the 4 interviews, just trying to understand if it is offer resigning level of mistake.

Hi there,

It depends (favourite consulting answer of all times):

A. If you calculated the wrong things and ended up at the right result by chance >> this would be a failed part then

or …

B. If you just structured differently / less optimal, but ultimately had the right elements that lead you to the right result + all your other interviews were ok, then it should be ok :) but of course hard to say outside in.

Hope this somewhat helps!

Hi there,

These kinds of mistakes are usually not a problem if the rest of the cases went well (no real weaknesses, clear and consistent performance spikes).

Fingers crossed,

Florian

Case interviews are NOT about getting the final answer right. Doing the math right is secondary (but of course, you don't want to get the math wrong).

They're about understanding your thought process.

Having said this, forgetting something within your structure is usually not perceived as a major issue.
