I have an interview with Deloitte for a management consultancy role (have already had my screening call). Does anyone have any idea what questions they might ask besides the obvious and hot to best prepare for them? Thanks!

What do you mean by "obvious?" Your question is really a very broad question without much context (e.g. are you coming in for an expert / practice area aligned role or not), and I think without stating your understanding of the interview process, it's also hard for coaches here to effectively give a perspective of what you know and don't know.

In any case, a standard management consulting interview consists of 2 parts

  1. Fit/behavioural
  2. Case

There are plenty of resources that explain this on Preplounge, e.g. (https://www.preplounge.com/en/case-interview-basics)

How best to prepare for them:

  1. Understand what the requirements are -> plenty of publicly available resources there
  2. Get quality feedback on your preparation -> self-practice is rarely enough, at least find a practice partner with ideally consulting background that will be extremely helpful

All the best!

Hi Rory,

For the Deloitte management consulting interview, you can expect two main components:

1. Case Interview
This will test your structured problem-solving, numerical skills, and business intuition. It may be interviewer-led or conversational. Common case types include market entry, profitability, or operations-based questions.

How to prepare:

  • Practice structuring your answers clearly (e.g., MECE frameworks).
  • Get comfortable with mental math and interpreting charts quickly.
  • Use free resources like CaseCoach, PrepLounge, or Victor Cheng.
  • Run mock cases with friends or peers — practicing aloud makes a big difference.

2. Fit / Behavioral Questions
Deloitte places strong emphasis on collaboration, adaptability, and leadership. Expect questions like:

  • "Tell me about a time you worked in a team with conflicting opinions."
  • "Describe a time you had to solve a complex problem with limited information."
  • "Why Deloitte? Why consulting?"

How to prepare:

  • Use the STAR format (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure responses.
  • Prepare 3–4 strong stories that show leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, and resilience.
  • Research Deloitte’s values and recent projects — be ready to explain why you’re a good cultural fit.

If you'd like to run a mock case or go through fit questions together, happy to help — just reach out!

Best,

Evelina

Hello Rory,

They will likely conduct a case and behavioral interview. This platform is all about it, specially the case portion so you may want to deep dive in articles and use the pool of candidates here for the mock sessions. For the behavioral part, I suggest you follow the McKinsey PEI dimensions to structure your stories.

If you’re new to this and your interview is going to happen in the next week/s, I highly recommend you to get a coach. This person can really accelerate your learning process and gives you a blueprint you can follow in your next drills and mocks.

Best,

Mari

Hi there,

First of all, if you still can, clarify the scope of the call with HR. Is this an actual evaluative call or an informative one? Somehow, based on your description, I would rather assume the latter, and in that case, think if you have any questions about the role and the recruitment process.

If the former, then try to get a sense from the recruiter what the structure of the discussion is (e.g., behavioural questions).

Once this is clear, the prep is a lot more straightforward. You can also come back here and repost the question, and we can provide more targeted answers.

Best,
Cristian

Hi there,

Talk to your recruiting contact first — most consulting firms have official preparation guides that outline what the interview process will look like and often include some free prep resources.

For Deloitte interview process, you’re facing fit and case interviews. The best way to prepare?

  1. Learn the casing fundamentals — structuring, math, charts, brainstorming, and communication
  2. Understand what the interviewer is really looking for (not just the answer, but how you think)
  3. Practice with that in mind — it’s not about doing hundreds of cases, it’s about practicing smart

Hey Rory!

Besides the usual fit and motivation questions, expect a market sizing or mini-case, some behavioral questions (like teamwork, leadership, conflict), and possibly a few around commercial awareness or current events. Sometimes they test basic Excel or business judgment too.

Best prep is to practice structured answers (STAR), 1–2 market sizing drills, and review recent Deloitte projects in the region. Happy to help you prep if you’d like!

Best,
Alessa

Hi Rory,

As other coaches have mentioned, you'll have a case interview and a fit interview.

If you're new to case studies, the most important skill to learn is structuring, since this is applicable to several types of questions and will drive your case outcome.

Best of luck.
