I wanted to understand if it is ok to use an academic framework such as PESTLE here. Would you recommend using it in a case interview?

I think this is actually the ideal framework to use. In fact, one of my "uncommon" frameworks that I use is "Social, Political, Economic, Environmental)". This is exactly what I would leverage for this prompt, and, it appears PESTLE is quite similar.
