Current hiring situation among the MBBs (DACH offices)

Could you please share any insights on current hiring trends? Are potential candidates receiving more interview invitations compared to 2023 and 2024, which were known to be tougher years for recruiting?

I know this is a fairly broad question, but I’d really appreciate any insights you might have!

Hi there,

Happy to provide a perspective, though with the note that all of this is empirical, rather than based on data.

The hiring situation is slower or about the same compared to 2023 and 2024.

June is typically an 'off-month' anyway, with recruiting about to ramp up with the end of summer, start of autumn.

If you are interested in applying though, all of this is somewhat irrelevant, since you don't get to influence this process in any way.

My strong recommendation would be two-fold:

1. Apply broadly to diversify your risk and protect yourself against any hiring trends

2. Validate the firm is actually recruiting before applying (i.e., speak with the recruiter).

On a more general level, to help you with the application process, you might find the following guide useful:

Would echo what Cristian said.

My sense is that the hiring situation is pretty similar to 2023 in DACH but a bit tougher in some regions (e.g., London).

It pays to apply to a broad range of firms. Let me know if you need any help.

Hi there,

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your question:

  • First of all, based on my personal network, hiring is slightly stronger than it was two years ago and similar to last year. Also, it seems unlikely that the "hiring madness" of 2021 and 2022 will return, and consulting firms seem to have paid a high price for it.
  • Moreover, however, please keep in mind that the current hiring situation doesn't actually matter to you because you can't influence it and don't have the flexibility to wait a year. Instead, I would strongly advise you to focus on perfecting your application files, getting strong referrals, and applying broadly so you end up with at least one offer by the time your application processes are finished.

You can find more on this topic here: Salaries in the consulting industry.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare your application files, for your upcoming pre-interview assessments and/or interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen

hey there :)

great timing to ask, yes, there are early signs that hiring at MBB in DACH is picking up again compared to 2023/early 2024. I’ve seen a noticeable increase in interview invitations among my coachees recently, especially for internships and full-time roles starting in 2025. firms seem more open again, though still selective, and strong profiles are definitely landing interviews.

if you're thinking of applying soon, now is a good moment, feel free to reach out if you want to check your profile or prep together!

best,
Alessa :)
