Any help how to prepare myself for BCG online assessment?

Hi everyone,
In a week, I’ll be taking the BCG online assessment, and I was wondering if anyone here has already done it and could share some insights. I don’t have a business background, so I’m quite unsure about what to expect.

Could anyone explain the structure of the assessment, how to best prepare for it, and possibly recommend any materials or tips for success? I’d really appreciate any guidance!

Thank you in advance!

Hey, congratulations on the invitation! Here are my two cents:

BCG Online Case / Casey Chatbot

This is the core part for most people and feels like an automated business case.

What to Expect:

  • Duration: 25–35 minutes
  • Format: Chatbot-led questions (text and multiple choice)
  • Topics: Business problems — usually around profitability, market entry, M&A
  • Tasks:

    • Reading exhibits (graphs, tables, charts)
    • Performing mental math
    • Making logical deductions
    • Answering structured questions

How to Prepare (Especially Without Business Background)

  1. Get Comfortable with Case Concepts:

    • Profit = Revenue – Cost
    • Market sizing basics
    • Breakeven and ROI concepts
    • Reading graphs quickly and extracting insights

  2. Practice with Free Resources:

    • BCG Casey Simulation (if you were invited)
    • PrepLounge chatbot case simulations
    • Victor Cheng’s Case Interview Math drills
    • Look for mock BCG online tests online (many YouTube videos simulate it)

  3. Brush Up on Data Interpretation and Business Math:

    • Percentages, growth rates, ratios
    • Estimation and fast calculations
    • Use GMAT-level Data Sufficiency and Problem Solving questions

  4. Practice Thinking Aloud & Structuring:

    • Although it’s not a live case, structure your thoughts logically
    • Practice summarizing charts into 1–2 sentence insights

Quick Tips

  • Time is tight → don’t spend too long on one question
  • Use paper for quick calculations
  • Look for trend shifts or outliers in charts
  • Eliminate clearly wrong answers if stuck
  • Don’t panic — many candidates without business backgrounds still pass!

Hi Jasmine,

Q: Could anyone explain the structure of the assessment, how to best prepare for it, and possibly recommend any materials or tips for success?

I provided some information below on the assessment.

The BCG Online Case (also called Hirequotient or Casey Chatbot Interview) is an 8-10 question test that BCG now uses in several countries. It is structured in two parts:

  • 8-10 questions to be taken in 35 minutes (in its new version, before it was 25-30 minutes)
  • 1 video interview question at the end, where you usually have to provide a recommendation

If you want to prepare further for the online case, I created a software simulation that replicates the chatbot and one-way video interview.

It includes the following and more:

  • 4 Casey Software Simulations of the Chatbot. These are live chatbots simulating exactly the same chatbot environment of the test (meaning you will receive questions from an actual chatbot with a flow equivalent to the one of the test).
  • 4 One-Way Video Interviews. These come with Artificial Intelligence reports, so that you can see how the software will perceive your performance in terms of voice, speech clarity, energy and more.
  • 2 PDF Simulations of the Chatbot. These are additional tests Casey-style, meaning you will have 6 different Casey Chatbots to train with overall.
  • Free access to 6 PSTs and Potential Tests for further practice.
  • Deep explanation of all the 5 types of questions asked in the BCG Online Case thanks to the complimentary 144-page guide.

You can get immediate access to the software simulation and guide at the link below:

Good luck!

Hi Jasmine,

First of all, congratulations on the invitation from BCG!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your questions:

  • First of all, contrary to what other coaches have said, it is not certain that you will have to take the BCG Casey pre-interview assessment, as BCG has increasingly rolled out the BCG CCA pre-interview assessment. Could you please share what the recruiter has told you?
  • Moreover, if you would like help preparing for either of the two pre-interview assessments by the most-recommended coach, please feel free to reach out to me directly.

You can find more on this topic here: How to succeed in the final interview round.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on how to best prepare for your upcoming BCG pre‑interview assessment and/or interviews, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hagen
