I wanted to understand that how does ECON select the candidates for internship interview rounds?

If someone is not able to get a referral, are there any chances to get an internship interview call?

Hi, not a simple answer to that as there are many individual cases. However, there are some key requirements that are important to us, independently from your study background:

You have a top-grade university degree
Ideally, you have already gained some initial consulting and project management experience
You are fluent in English and (willing to learn) German
You have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
You want to make a difference and have an entrepreneurial and innovative mindset
