Goldman Sachs PWM interview style

Hello,

I’m going through the recruitment process for a private wealth management analyst role at Goldman Sachs and trying to understand what to expect from the interviews. I’ve read that the format can be a mix of technicals, market commentary, and behavioral questions, but I’m wondering what that actually looks like in practice.

Will they expect me to pitch a stock or discuss asset allocation strategies, or is it more about assessing client management potential and cultural fit? I’d appreciate any insight from those who’ve interviewed or worked in the PWM division there.

Hello,

From what I’ve seen and heard from others who’ve interviewed there, the interviews are quite mixed but very people-focused. They do care about markets and financial knowledge, but they’re often more interested in how you think, how you communicate, and how you’d interact with clients.

You probably won’t be expected to pitch a stock like in S&T or IBD interviews, but you might be asked:

  • “How would you invest $1 million for a conservative client?”
  • “What’s happening in the markets right now that would matter to a high-net-worth investor?”
  • “How would you handle a client who’s worried about volatility?”

They might throw in a light technical like how bonds work or the basics of diversification, but in my experience, it’s more about your logic and ability to explain things clearly and not memorizing formulas.

Cultural fit is a big deal in PWM. They want to see if you’re coachable, professional, and can build trust over time. If you show curiosity about markets and people, that goes a long way.

Best regards!
