Withdrawn Mckinsey Status

Hi there,

I recently had my final round of interviews at Mckinsey and saw that my application status has now been changed to withdrawn. The recruiter is not responding to my messages. Just wondering what the withdrawn status could mean in terms of the status of their decision.

Hi there,

Hope you are well. I know it can be frustrating to wait for an answer from the recruiting team but sometimes no news is good news. I would not speculate on the reasons why your application changed to withdrawn. There could be a number of reasons the HR is slow in response and I would suggest continuing to follow up with them for an official answer. Thank you and hope it helps.

Regards,

David

Hi there,

Wait a few days for a response of your recruiter and follow up if there is radio silence.

In the meanwhile, you can check how the recruiting process works from an internal MBB perspective here:

That's odd and most likely a system mistake.

Give the recruiter a bit more time and if they don't answer in a week from when you sent the message, then follow up.

But I wouldn't read anything specifically in what the official status says online.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
Best,
Cristian

Hi there,

First of all, I am sorry to hear about your negative experience with McKinsey!

I would be happy to share my thoughts on your situation:

  • First of all, it's important to understand that a “withdrawn” status on your application could mean several things. It might indicate that the recruitment process has been halted for reasons beyond your application, such as changes in hiring needs or internal restructuring at McKinsey, or that it is merely a technical issue.
  • Moreover, in situations where the recruiter is not responding, it's crucial to maintain professionalism and patience. I would advise you to wait for a few more days and then try reaching out again, possibly through a phone call.
  • Lastly, prepare yourself for different outcomes. While I hope for a positive response, it's wise to be ready for other possibilities. I would highly advise you to continue exploring opportunities with other consulting firms and keep honing your skills in the meantime.

You can find more on this topic here: How to deal with a rejection from a consulting company.

If you would like a more detailed discussion on your specific situation, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.

Best,

Hi there,

I'm really sorry, that's frustrating.

Either:

a) They do not have the position open anymore (changing pipeline)

OR

b) there has been a glitch

I recommend you wait another week and 1) Call the recruiter and 2) Reach out directly to your referrer/contact at the firm

Hi there,

Unfortunately, it's not conclusive but generally doesn't look good.

Technically, only you can withdraw the application. So either it's a system error, or they were a bit careless when trying to change it to rejection. It's hard to imagine a very positive scenario here, but it's possible.

Best of luck!

Hi there,

Q: Just wondering what the withdrawn status could mean in terms of the status of their decision.

It doesn't look good, but they should send an email to formally clarify the results in any case. If they haven't done so within one week of the final, I would recommend calling HR to clarify.

Good luck!

Hi there,

until there is official feedback, everything is just speculation unfortunately. Since you already sent messages to the recruiter, I would wait for a little bit longer to give them time to respond. If you don't hear any updates by early next week, I think it is legitimate to try to follow up via phone.

Fingers crossed that you end up getting the offer!

Hi,

Unfortunately, it's probably a rejection, but maybe just an organisational mix-up. They should get back to you with an official decision later on.

In the meantime, don't get hung up on McK alone and continue applying to other firms.

Good luck!
Nick
