Hi, I was curious as to why is INSEAD specifically popular among consultants/consulting firms?

I can understand the brand and prestige the Ivy league brings to an MBA candidate, however, what makes INSEAD distinct?

Thanks!

Hey there,

From a McKinsey Germany perspective:

The firm continues to pay one year salary + 50% of your MBA tuition fees. Since INSEAD is not even a 12-month program, consultants on educational leave of absence can get a full MBA program financed and have a low opportunity cost.

Cheers,

Florian

One can only speculate. However, some of the reasons could be:

  • Region advantage - Europe and MIddle East (instead of North America)
  • 2 intake cycles
  • Very good alumni network
  • Network effect of large number of INSEAD people in consults already

Hi there,

Honestly, why is any school more highly reputed than others?

At the end of the day, brand/prestige takes time, effort, and, most importantly, money to build.

INSEAD attracts extremely bright candidates, the top teachers, and the top companies. Whatever they've done in terms of their prioritization of efforts etc. has attracted consultants (much like Stern/NYU attracts finance/banking).

Which came first? Well, that's a chicken and egg question :)

Hi,

Sharing my perspective on this.

  1. Duration
    • INSEAD is 1 year, vs typically 2 year programs. So there is less opportunity cost from an income POV and career progression POV
  2. Location
    • For consultants that want to work/live in Europe and Asia, INSEAD has arguably a stronger network than the US schools
    • In addition, you get to spend time in Singapore which is the gateway to Asia (easy travel to that region on weekeends)
  3. Acceptance rate
    • The general perception is that that you have a higher chance of getting into INSEAD vs HBS/GSB
    • The stats support this - INSEAD's acceptance rate is ~30% vs HBS which is around ~10-13%

Hope this helps to clarify!
